He lives in Victoria, B.C., where he also teaches painting and drawing. His paintings hang in corporate and private collections in Canada, the United States and Internationally. David was elected to the Canadian Society of Painters in Water Colour in 1998. In 1998 he was awarded the Honour Award and A. J. Casson Medal. David works in watercolour, oil and etching. Artist’s Statement: “ My work is a response to the beauty and simplicity of the things I found around me. In figure and landscape, careful study reveals the undercurrents and rhythms of existence. It is a an irresistible force.”D.L. “There are no accidents – happy or otherwise – in my studio.Painting is an act of will. I try to get across whatever it was that moved me and eliminate all else. I struggle with it, but I don’t want the painting to convey the feeling of a battlefield. Once you know technique thoroughly, you can be free from it.”D.L.
